Mission:
The Hunt Begins
Location: Main Engineering Lower Level - Deck 17 - USS Artemis
Timeline: MD004 0900
Siadra found her way to Engineering, her eyes widening at the heart of the ship. Well to her it was the heart, as without the functioning of the engine the ship would be just a hulk of lifeless metal. She spoke in her recording device. "I have found my way to engineering. I've not found the engineer as of yet but I have just stepped inside, and am just taken at how lovely it is. I can actually appreciate the craftsmanship that was used to create this work of art."she gave a sigh of delight,
"Whenever someone hears this account of mine, you might raise an eyebrow as to how I find engineering artistic but if you could ever have the chance to be in engineering, just the lines and the way the lighting of the consoles, and even.. the warp engine core. It is beautiful almost like the ship is being powered by the stars."
With the relative cozy nature of the Engine Room aboard a Luna Class Starship, it did not take much for Ensign Cihl Theidi to overhear the arrival of a newcomer to his domain. Actually, most times, people never even realized he was the Chief Engineer due to his only being an Ensign and he was curious to see if this new arrival, a Lieutenant it seemed, would follow suit.
Turning away from the Matter/Antimatter Reaction Control Interface, the Ventaxian called, "Can I help you, Lieutenant?"
Siadra did a graceful pirouette when she turned to face the voice that came to her ears. "Oh hello Chief. Hope you don't mind my being here. I was admiring your domain. Permission to continue to do so?" Siadra giving a curtsy as one would do so for royalty.
"Um, ok?" Theidi questioned after seeing the curtsy. "Not many people come down here to admire the engine room, Lieutenant. Are you sure there is nothing I can help you with?"
"Well actually there is, I am making some recordings and stories of what people had experienced during the fight with the Breen. I have my own story that I have recorded, but would like to know what you experienced." she then remembered. "Oh and my name is Lieutenant Siadra Molaur. Pleasure to make your acquaintence." giving a bright smile.
He replied with his name quickly, "Ensign Cihl Theidi of Ventax II." He inwardly noted that the newcomer was a Trill in Sciences Blue and remembered hearing the name Siadra Molaur, but inwardly had issues with placing why. Most of the time he was stuck below a bulkhead or in a circuitry bay working on the ship so he'd missed more than one memo from the Captain that way. He probably would want to take time to check his memos more often, at least so he knew who everyone was and he would probably seem a bit more friendly to the rest of the crew.
"As for my story there isn't much to tell," he said as he checked a readout on the display screen of the Matter/Antimatter Reaction Control Interface console. "I spent most of the battle here, in Engineering, working on trying to keep the ship's systems operating at the optimal levels. Aside from a brief race with two other crewmembers in the holodeck there really wasn't much more than that." A warning tone came from the same console that the Chief Engineer had just left. He sighed, "Dvokr, check on the Secondary Particle Focus Dampener for me." The Tellarite grunted and stomped off into a Jeffries Tube that traveled below Engineering.
Siadra consulted her innerselves to gain some knowledge of the engineer's race. " Your people are good at making deals, the clothing and tapesteries are beautiful not to mention the vases. Its something that I've noted about your people." As to Theidi mentioning of what he did, Siadra remarked. "I am rather glad that you kept this ship in one piece. Would have been terrible for her to have been lost."
"Yes it would," he answered as he looked toward the Tube Dvokr had just entered. "It's especially interesting that you brought up my people, Lieutenant. Very few people are aware of the Ventaxians, let along our proclivities for the arts. Do you have concern with a member of an agrarian society that sacrificed its technologies because of a deal with the devil serving as an engineer?" It was a brazen question and he knew it.
"No, do you have a problem of being of that race?" Siadra shot back. "I've been around the block a few times so." giving a slight shrug, "Can't truly judge a person by the race they are from." Eyeing Theidi up and down. "So untwist your knickers for the time being, I've been around for quite sometime."
"My apologies for breaking protocol," Theidi carefully checked his pants, "but where are my knickers in a twist, Lieutenant? I want to be uniform regulation compliant."
Siadra gave a sigh. "I am sorry, that is a human euphemism for take a breath and in some aspect calm down. I am not here to judge you at all. Just getting to know you and the rest of the crew. And to know the other parts of the ship I am on."
The Engineer nodded, "I understand, Ma'am, and I am sorry for taking your comments so literally. My people don't have many euphemisms like the rest of the galaxy seem to." He noticed his Tellarite Engineer had returned from the task assigned. "The Luna Class is an impressive vessel group. I am certain that there are a lot more interesting places than our cramped engine room," the Chief said, probably with some surprise to hear an engineer with a criticism of their engine room.
"Well it is a bit cozy, I will agree with that, but, for the size of this ship, isn't it the perfect size for the job it is needed to do?" Siadra turning to take another look at engineering.
"Some could say that," the Ensign answered. "To me, however, it sometimes feels like I am the Engineer of a Defiant Class ship instead of an exploration vessel."
"And do you wish you were on a larger vessel? " Siadra was a bit curious about what his answer will be. "I am just glad to be on a ship and get to engage in exploration of the mysterious kind."
The Engineer shook his head, "I didn't say that, Lieutenant. I am quite happy here aboard the Artemis. It is, in a sense, a family tradition. While many of my species avoid venturing to the stars, my Uncle was one such Ventaxian and became Chief Engineer on this vessel's sister ship, the U.S.S. Nathan Hale. While he is no longer an Engineer and serves as First Officer on Deep Space Station K-7, I feel this is a means for me to continue to honor his engineering legacy."
"A nice piece of history there." Siadra remarked. "It seems that you have a love for this ship then and am glad of that. This..." her gesturing around Engineering "Is the heart of the ship and if the heart isn't working and the caretaker of it isn't happy, it doesn't bode well for this fine craft."
"Exactly," the Ensign answered. "Now I wouldn't mind being a Lieutenant, but that's for another day," he had the small traces of a smile that lasted only for a nanosecond.
"I do hope you will reach your goal as to becoming a Lieutenant. I do not see you not becoming one." Siadra looked once more around engineering. "I suppose I should leave for now. but do I have permission to come back down here to visit? Or we can visit somewhereelse."
"Certainly," he answered in the affirmative. "It's a small ship after all, but that's welcome here."
A smile and a nod, Siadra then replied, "I will hold you to this. For now though, I will head off to the next area I plan to visit. Thank you for your time." she turned around and left engineering, feeling like she had accomplished something.
