Episode 2 - The Sins of History
Location: Chief Medical Officer's Office - Deck 9 - USS Artemis
Timeline: MD009 1500 hrs
There was a momentary blank look on Siadra's face then she ruefully shook her head. "I truly do not know. I had forgotten to go and check on the plants as of late. There is an auto-watering system, for the reason of my not remember to check on them. Must make me sound like an irresponsible person."
"Not at all. Especially if this is something new and, from the sound of it, something casual to grow fruit. Perhaps I should have a chat with her? I am interested in growing more than the few plants I can accommodate in my office. I would love to utilize part of the forensic botany lab to do some experiments of my own as well as work with medicinal herbs and flowers."
"I would think it possible, and I don't think Nala would have any problem with that either. As being the Chief of Science, I give you my authorization to make a corner of the labs your own." Siadra giving a bright smile.
"Thank you. I'm going to do some research to decide which plants would be best." She smiled at Siadra. "There are so many choices."
"Indeed, there are. I do like lemon balm, and definitely the scent of peppermint. Rosemary and Sage as well. Besides just a light touch of lavender. Are you into Aromatherapy by chance?" just the thought of that made Siadra perk up even more.
"Some, yes. I use teas and poultices more than aromatherapy. Each of those plants do have multiple benefits." She made a quick notation of the plants for her research.
"I do look forward to seeing what you end up putting in there. Will be most informative as well." Siadra taking another drink of her tea. "This is very good. " as she looked into the cup, catching the scent of the peppermint leaves and seeing her own reflection.
"Some say you can tell your fortune in the tea leaves," Maya said, looking in her own cup. "That's not something I've studied, though. I prefer to learn about the tea itself and its beneficial properties." She smiled. "I believe your future is more about what you do with the life you've been given."
"I will agree with you. And with my having lived different lives, tea leaves do not predict how those lives have played out." giving a nod. "Nor even if I were an actual part of the trio of Fates that still wouldn't be able to predict how my life has changed." Siadra responded with a half-smile.
"Indeed. I hope your life has changed for the better."
Siadra gave a nod, "It has so far, however, we will see as time goes by. All depends on what decides to come at me. I am rekindling a friendship with a classmate from Academy. I am looking forward to seeing where that will go. I also had to say goodbye to a good friend of mine, he got injured on an away mission." Siadra's eyes darkening with sadness.
"Will your friend recover?" Saying goodbye to a friend was difficult, but losing one was always worse. She hoped, for Siadra's sake, that her friend would recover, in time.
"Actually, where Abe is concerned, I have a strong feeling that he will recover and be able to go back to doing something he loved. He has such a brilliant mind, and such an untapped creativity. And also made of a strong material. I will miss him very much, and yet his path string was tugged towards another place and time." Siadra answered. "Sadly, being long lived, there are quite a few times when one has to say goodbye and leave old friends as well as family, behind when the outer shell changes."
"There are times in all our lives when we must say goodbye to someone we love. Some species more than others. However, I'm glad your friend will recover." As a doctor, Maya had learned to accept death as a natural part of life, but it was not always easy. "Do you have other friends on the ship?"
"Yes I do, well I count them as friends. There is Fenora of which we're planning on working out a Frankenstein construct on the holodeck involving medical. Then there is Viessa, she saved my life as well as Ansel Lund. If it weren't for them, I would have died. I got bitten by something that was in one of my boxes I was digging through." she paused to take a drink of her tea and to regain her composure.
"Oh, my. How did it get in one of your boxes? Where did you keep it, if I may ask?" Maya shook her head. "That's more like something I'd find back home than on a starship." Then she leaned forward. "And what is this about constructing Frankenstein's monster?"
"I carry various materials and research projects in containers, and most times I make certain that I wear gloves just in case something happens to have crawled inside. This time I didn't do such and as a result of my carelessness, I almost died." a broad smile though appeared at the interest of her mentioning Frankenstein's monster. "As for the Monster, the plan is for doing this in the holodeck, the idea came from a joke but, it did catch my interest along with the other of the science team." Siadra chuckled.
Maya nodded. "You said science and medical. Does that mean I may participate? It sounds like a fascinating project--monster notwithstanding."
"That is something that came up in the discussion, yes medical, I think it would be rather fun to do like a- oh I don't know just a crew team work project. Something to have fun and a get to know each other activity." Siadra rather excited about this subject.
Maya grinned. "Well, speaking for medical, I think it sounds like a lot of fun. I haven't read the book, but I've seen a number of old Frankenstein movies. Let me know when and where."
"I certainly shall do so." with an answering grin. Siadra finished up her tea, lowering the cup, "This was delicious, and I am looking forward to getting to know you more, thank you for inviting me to tea."
"I'm looking forward to it as well." Maya set her own teacup down and stood. "Thank you for stopping by. You are welcome any time."
"I shall certainly do so, now I have two friends in Medical." Siadra proclaimed, placing the tea cup upon the table. "And do come down for a visit in Science as well. I will see you later." Siadra gave a bright smile and left medical.
