| General Overview | Kaida is generally a happy soul. She's not overly shy but doesn't seek out company. She finds small talk difficult and often jumps right into telling people some interesting fact she’s discovered through reading or her hobby of exploring holodeck programs of different planets and species. She doesn't believe that there is a person out there for her and will not seek out romantic relationships, preferring to devote herself to her work. However Kaida delights in puzzles and mysteries and will gladly join in and be social if such is involved. |

| Personal History | Born in 2360, Sorine Kaida (the surname comes before the given name in Bajoran culture) spent the first 9 years of her life dreaming to be amongst the stars. She was born and raised in the Lotha province of Bajor. Her parents came from a farming family but spent the majority of their adult lives working in the mines under Cardassian overlords. Kaida and her brother were in charge of foraging for food in nearby abandoned farms. At 9 she was adopted by a human couple after the disappearance of her brother and parents. To this day Kaida does not know what happened to them. It’s been the one mystery that haunts her, the case she can’t solve. She was taken to Earth but Kaida was still always restless. She would often disappear for hours at a time until one of them found her up a favorite tree where she could see a different view of a constellation. This did not cease until she was old enough to decide for herself what she wanted to do with her life. Although Bajoran Kaida understands human society better than her own. She finds it hard to believe in the Prophets, not their existence but in the belief that they are gods and not wormhole aliens. Her parents were both devout and religion is something that Kaida has struggled with her whole life. She wants to believe, to have faith but is marred by doubts brought on by the death of her parents and the Bajoran occupation. Still, when not on duty, she wears the same earring she was given as a child in tribute to and as a reminder of them. Upon reaching adulthood Kaida knew that she wanted to travel the stars, she knew she wanted to help people and bring closure to them, something that she never got. She applied and was accepted into Starfleet Academy in 2378 with an interestin in possibly studying law but found investigations much more intersting as they allowed her to roam and not be so idle behind a desk. She also minored in engineering, something of personal interest to herself that she did not want to make a career out of. She made few friends at the Academy but wasn’t disliked by anyone. Her instructors found her to be capable if a bit unorthodox in her thinking. Graduation day was the happiest of her life because it meant that soon she would be traveling home. |
