Mission: The Sins of History
Location: Security - Deck 10 - USS Artemis
Timeline: MD003 1000 hrs

Andrew reread every file he and Sorine had looked through. He had a very cold feeling. If Griffin was correct then all the recent disappearances were in fact murders. To silence anyone from finding out Gul Vancet did not die during the occupation of Cardassia. The Captain needed to be informed immediately as this could explain Holmes' recent behavior.

Andrew tapped his comm badge.

=/\= Lieutenant Junior Grade Andrew Griffin to Captain Marc Kidd. Come in please we have something extremely urgent to speak with you about sir.=/\=

Marc tapped his comm badge. "I am on my way." They were still in the early phases of the case and Marc was extremely curious what could have been so urgent. He strode into the Security Offfice. "Morning Lieutenant. What do you have?"

Andrew stood up.

“ Greetings Captain. As you know sir.” Andy placed a number of padds before the Captain. Which he pointed to as he spoke.

“ We were assigned to go over all the case files that Minister Holmes looked into over the last six months. We noticed that there have been a few disappearances. At first they all looked random. A farmer , a shuttle pilot, even a vadek. But they all had one common factor. All of them survived the Porchet forced labor camp. Which was run by Gul Vancet who was allegedly killed during the dominion occupation of Cardassia. The death certificate was signed by Gul Dukat. That’s when the red alert klaxon went off in my head sir.” Andy reported.

"Well you certainly have my interest Lieutenant. Please continue." Marc was not mincing words. The trail that Griffin was on seemed like a good one. Now it was time to see where it led.

Andrew took a sip of water before continuing.

“ As you know Captain , before I came to the Artemis I served on DS9 for a few years. In that time I heard and read many accounts of the last months of the Dominion war. It was seeing Gul Dukat's name on Gul Vancets death certificate that suddenly pinged in my head. There is no way Gul Dukat was on Cardassia at the time Gul Vancet died. He was on Bajor and heavily disguised as a Bajoran. Dukat and Kai Winn were plotting to free the Parr Wraiths from the Fire Caves. The autopsy report was apparently lost in an explosion when the Cardassian freedom forces attacked the central command building. All that survived was the death certificate. Sir. We believe these disappearances are murders. Gul Vancet is alive and is having killed anyone who can identify him. I believe this is what minister Holmes wishes to speak to you about.”Andrew reported.

"That is a reather tall accusation. Even if the Gul was alive why would he come out of hiding and risk arrest just to kill some witnesses. Add to that why would Cardassia cover up the Gul being alive. There are a lot of what ifs in your theory Lieutenant." Marc began and then sipped his coffee. There may have been a lot of what ifs and holes in this theory, but there was something that made sense about it too. "Lets go with your theory. If you are correct what is the Gul's end game. if he gets away with all of this what is he looking for?"

The Captain was correct that there were a lot of ifs and holes in their theory. Why after all this time would Gul Vancet suddenly start having people killed? Andrew kind of knew why Cardassia wanted to cover up Vancet still being alive.

“ Cardassia took a hefty beating from the Dominion. They are trying to rebuild and need off world assistance. If it became common knowledge that one of the planets most vial mass murderers was still alive and they covered it up. That help is going to vanish quicker than a ship going to warp 9.” Andrew said, taking a breath.

So why did Gul Vancet suddenly decide after all this time. To start killing anyone who could identify him?

“ As to why Gul Vancet is killing anyone who may recognize him ...? Well maybe his hiding place is no longer secure. The Bajorans would arrest him on sight for war crimes. Then again he may not be behind these murders. Perhaps it’s one of his offspring? Records showed he was married and had just one son. His wife died during childbirth and Gul Vancet would have nothing to do with the child. Maybe the son is trying to prove himself to his father. By killing all those who could recognize him? For some reason there is no record of what the son looks like or is called.” Andrew reported.

"Now that may be something. For Cardassians family means more than just about anything. It is possible that this prodigal son is getting revenge as well. Revenge for being cast off. Until we get to Bajor continue your investigation. Try to learn more about the Gul's son and what happened to them from the Occupation onward. We may be able to get ahead of this yet." Marc could not contain his excitement as this theory had the possibility for them to get a lead on the case before they even met the Minister.

“ Yes sir.” Andy said
