Mission: The Sins of History
Location: Various
Timeline: MD001 0800 hrs

Fenora sat at her computer in the science lab and stared at the screen. Transferred. That was normal in Starfleet. She'd been transferred before, too. But this… She didn't even think this was possible. Not on her current career path, anyway. Or, rather, her former career path. Once again, her life was about to take a drastic turn—hopefully for the better.

But those other changes, while positive, had been difficult. Complex. Life altering. Surely this would be small in comparison. Her first pon farr, leaving Vulcan, and joining Starfleet.

For the briefest moment, she considered informing her parents about this transfer, but they'd cut off all contact with her when she joined Starfleet. They would not see this as anything different as it was still the same organization.

She began to pace the lab. She would be working full-time as a forensic scientist. Well, maybe not full-time, but most of the time. It would probably depend on how many bones needed her. She stopped in front of her computer and grinned.

The door to the lab opened and a short, middle-aged officer walked in. "You look positively radiant. Good news?"

"Yes, sir. I received a transfer to a ship that does criminal investigations. I'll be their forensic scientist." It was the first time she'd said it out loud and it felt great.

He smiled. "Congratulations. We'll miss you here, but that does sound perfect for your skill set."

"Thank you. I hope so." She looked at her monitor again. "I guess I'm still trying to take it in."

"Do you think you'll tell your parents?" he asked.

She paused for a moment. "No. But I may tell my brother." They didn't talk much, but he hadn't turned his back on her like her parents had.

"Well, that's something. Perhaps, in time…" He shook his head and let the topic drop. "When do you leave?" He came over to stand beside her and look at her orders. "In the morning. Good. You'll have time to finish your shift and pack, then."

She looked at the chief and nodded. "Yes. sir. I'll get right to work." She really had spent enough time processing the new orders. At least for now. She would focus on finishing her work for the day, then she'd think about contacting her brother before she packed. She wasn't sure if she'd get much sleep tonight anyway. Not without meditation.

"Well, I'll leave you to it, then. It's been a pleasure working with you, Fenora. Good luck."

She smiled. She'd enjoyed working with the lieutenant. He was a good man and a good department head.

Once he left, she turned back to her computer. It was hard to get back on task. So, she took a break and looked up the USS Artemis. Yes, she thought. This was going to be something she would enjoy, and a place where her skills could be of use. She found where the ship was located and calculated how long it would take her to get there.

With a sigh she turned back to her work. "Computer, play classical music. Strings only." It was almost as good as meditation.
