Mission: The Sins of History
Location: Sickbay, USS Artemis
Timeline: MD007 1035 hrs

The ship grumbled like an old man who’d just heard some new music he hated. It shook like an old Earth amusement ride that was just holding onto the rails. Viessa frowned a little, a small crease and crinkle of her nose forming. The Artemis was a new ship and surely shouldn’t have been sounding like a pebble trapped in a tin can.

Having recently left the bridge she was still in the turbolift so maybe she was that pebble…

As the doors opened she stumbled a little as she moved out. It seems the Cardassian’s were not wanting to wait which was odd as they liked to posture as much as a Romulan in that backhanded kind of way. Their minds were always turning and often they were several moves ahead.

The corridor seemed to shake and wobble as the ship settled. Thankfully she was close to sickbay. Starfleet, in their infinite wisdom, always placed sickbay near turbolifts for ease of movement for the injured. Wouldn’t make much sense to have it at the ass end of the corridor and make potential patients trail all that way.

Sickbay’s doors parted as she once again felt the ship rumble at her feet. “You’d think the inertial dampeners would stop this kind of thing.” Viessa grumbled as she stumbled through the doors and caught onto the edge of a bio bed.

Most of her staff had already assembled and thankfully she had other doctors now, albeit only a few, and more medical staff such as nurses and auxiliaries. Some had even taken it upon themselves to start prepping sickbay for potential injuries.

“Good job.” Viessa indicated to the beds already set up. “Start to make up field medic kits as well. Just in case the patient can’t get here, we need to be ready.” she ordered.

“What’s going on doctor?” a young nurse asked.

“Cardassian ship in between us and Freecloud.” Viessa said as she moved to get herself ready. “Clearly they aren’t in their usually chatty mood so we must prepare for casualties of all kinds should this escalate further.” she smiled weakly at the nurse who looked a little shaken.

“Don’t worry. I’m sure Captain Kidd will diffuse the situation.” She placed a comforting hand on the woman’s shoulder as the woman nodded and moved off looking quite confident. “At least I hope he’s as diplomatic as he said he is.” she said, shaking her head a little before moving off to prep the surgical table.

Just in case.

For a moment her mind fluttered to the thought of Commander Rice, of Abe. She hoped he would be alright up there and even though she wanted to see him, laid up in sickbay with an injury was not how. It seemed of late that they had been too busy to set up that date they’d spoken of and now just clearly wasn’t the right time with some scary Cardassian’s outside their ship playing the schoolyard bully.

Needing to focus she cleared that from her mind and began to pre-program the surgical table with some treatments commonly encountered during a ship to ship skirmish.
