Last Time On The Trail Goes Digital Part I

“Should we split up or stay together?” Andrew asked.

Faith thought about it a moment, "Probably should stay together, just not...on top of each other, you know."

[If I had a say, I'd have us to stick together!] Nala gulped mentally, but she wasn't about to admit she was scared. Something about the other patrons was scaring her something fierce!

As the team sat and discussed a small scuffle could be overheard at the rear entrance. A raspy voice could be heard. "Move if you value you your life. You have no idea who you are dealing with."

Nala's hand subconsciously went to her waist, where she kept a small d'k tahg.

Hearing the commotion behind them, Cassie turned to see what was going on. While scuffles weren't unusual, someone being so loud was a little strange.

And Now The Conclusion...

Not one for anything remotely resembling combat, the Ferengi behind the bar grabbed his disruptor rifle and ducked behind the bar. There were only two things worth protecting, the first was his latinum and the second was himself. So, he was contended to allow those Starfleet Officers to do the fighting.

"We gonna see what's happening?" Nala asked as she slowly turned to her superiors.

Nala's hand closed around her d'k tahg, feeling a shiver race through her at the thought of either busting heads...or getting into a jam.

Andrew knew it would have been foolish to bring a phaser. But that was not to say he was not unarmed. He had his trusted Cosh with him. Basically just a synthetic sack filled with tiny but hard metal balls. Ideal for hitting someone on the head or across the torso. Pain in an instant or for a head hit unconscious in seconds. He tested it below the table waiting for orders from the others.

Taking a deep breath, Cassie nodded to her crew, "Come on, let's go check this out" she said as she stood up from the table and started to move toward the backdoor. While normally she wouldn’t want to get involved in these kinds of squabbles, Cassie thought that she might be able to use this ‘random act of kindness’ to squeeze a little more out of the Ferengi.

Andrew stood even though he knew this was a bad idea. Bar fights had a nasty habit of turning ugly very quickly.

Nala stood also, feeling a familiar buzz course through her: the buzz of adventure...mixed with a bit of fear.

"They are coming..." One of the guards shouted as their master continued to make his escape. He uttered one final order to the guards. "None of them get off this planet alive..." The group of Cardassians loyal to their master took up positions where they could put the Starfleet group in a pincer and pin them into a crossfire.

Cassie knew that this was not an optimal situation and if it was just her alone she would be more aggressive, but now that she was responsible for this away team, she couldn’t go off half cocked. Seeing one group of Cardassians moving to their right, Cassie quickly put a plan together, “Andy, Nala, protect the flank. Kaida, your with me, we’re gonna punch through the middle” she said to her team before finally noticing Siadra was no longer with them, “huh, hell of a time for a bathroom brake”

"Let's knock some heads!" Nala grinned wolfishly, her adventurous side coming out in full force.

Faith sighed, looking between the group and what was coming. Given her get up, and thinking ahead, she did have a weapon. Reaching to her thigh and quickly pulling out and older style ballistic pistol. Drawing it out quickly, she fired one shot in the air, on purpose. To make people panic. So that the rest of them could, or at least she could see who ducked and or ran, and who didn't. That would give all of them a clear view of who to focus on. "Always come prepared."

Kaida dove out of the way of a table that had been shoved aside. She really detested violence, after all her job usually came after the violence, after someone was already dead and it was her job to discover how they had died. But still, when in Rome, as the Humans said. She picked up a chair and used it as a battering ram.

Nala grinned to the Lt. as she took note who to knock over, and drove right into it, using the butt of her d'k tahg to topple a Cardassian and ellbowed another in the ribs.

Picking up one of the glasses from their table, Cassie took a quick drink before throwing the glass at the Cardassians infront of them, then quickly bounded towards them. She knew the best way to keep from being hit by those Disruptors was to get into hand-to-hand range to make the weapons less useful.

People always said that the English had good manners. But if they saw Andrew at that precise moment as he put his knee into the groin , of an attacker who was just about to take his eye out with a broken glass. That is if they knew what was his birth country was. Then their minds would be strongly changed about the English. Luckily the person Andrew had kneed had their genitalia in the usual place. Otherwise Griffin would be minus an eye.

“ Wooo that was a close one…” He said feeling a small scratch on his cheek.

"You thought that was close," Faith grinned. By weight feeling how many shots she had left. Suddenly turning around and firing a shot, hitting one Cardassian in the head. Moving her arm with the gun under her other, at the elbow, firing and pegging the second Cardassian that was behind the one that Cassie was jumping at. Letting the whirl sound of her duster distract another so she could leap over one of the tables. Locking him up under his arm, pushing the force of her momentum and hip into his and shove slamming him over her hip into said table. Slamming her elbow down into his chest, then firing a third shot into his temple. "Moving would be a good idea right now!!"

"My senaments exactly!" Nala called, dropping her third Cardassian and scrambling over to Cassie's side, not quite sure what to do next.

Andrew checked his cheek his reflection of a mirror. Thankfully he was turning away when a chair smashed through it. He whacked his cosh over the person who had thrown it , luckily they were humanoid and their head was a vulnerable spot.

“ This is like my hometown on a Saturday night before the bars got banned from selling the real stuff.” He said

"When we get out of here, you're gonna have to tell me about that!" Nala called, backing up against Cassie to cover her flank.

Andrew ducked and kicked out.

" Yes of course......these peoples aim is getting better." Andrew said.

"Eek! Yeah, they are!" Nala yelped as a Cardassian blade missed her nose by a whisker before Nala flicked a convinient guitar at him, sadly breaking said guitar in the process.

Ducking a punch of her own, Cassie gave the Cardassian an uppercut to knock him over before looking over her shoulder at the two behind her, “wouldn’t be much of a bar without the real stuff. Might as well be drinking water” she said, partly glad that the crew were feeling confident enough to exchange banter with one another.

Standing up from the hit he had received, one of the Cardassians gave a chuckle, “you federation types are too easy to distract. While you’re being all cute and boasting to each other, our boss is getting further and further out of your reach” he said as he wiped away some blood from his lip with the back of his hand, “huh, reminds me of my days on the Orion homeworld.”

Andrew looked around quickly. Vamcet it had to be Vamcet and this nasty piece of work knew were he was Griffin was sure of it.

“ Somone grab that guy!” He shouted above the noise.

"Oh no he didn't!" Nala growled, looking for anything else she could find to throw at the imp! Nala huffed as no weapons appeared.

"So...CHARGE!!!" Nala charged the Cardassian like a line backer!

Two of the Cardassians glanced over their shoulders and confirmed that the Gul had made his escape safely. This allowed them to turn their full attention to the Starfleet crew. They opened fire with their phasers, intentionally missing. The idea now was to lay down suppression fire as the rest of the Cardassian team escaped. The killing blows would have to wait until the time was right.

Nala let out a startled squawk and dove under a convinient turned over table.

"Anyone got an over sized squirt bottle for these knuckleheads!?" Nala called...not even sure WHERE the crazy sounding joke'd come from!

Siadra returned back to the bar where she had left the others. Glancing in the bar, and seeing the fightm she decided to head towards the rear entrance, there was something she needed to do, and didn't want to distract the others.

Dodging a shot from the cardassians, Cassie looked over her shoulder to see that the random fire coming from them was narrowly missing the civilians cowering in the corner. This caused her temper the flare as she turned back to her enemy and angrily charged in, tackling him to the ground before starting to pummel him over and over.

Nala poked her head up to see if things had settled down enough to take out more Cardassians...and saw Cassie throttling someone, but the civilians caught her attention.

"Save the beat down for later! Those civilians need our help!" Nala yelled, hoping Cassie could hear her over the gunfire.

Nala flitted from spot to spot until she got to the civilians.

"Hey there. My name's Nala, and I'm gonna get ya'll out of here," Nala motioned for the group to follow her, making sure to check the area before allowing them to move.

Siadra had stepped back when people had spilled out of the back of the bar, her eyes rather large, when a Cardassian who been the target, had a gleam in his eyes that she didn't like, Siadra stepped back. He raised his weapon...

A sudden shimmer of light, accompanied by a resounding thud, came from behind the Cardassian. Abe, his weapon still in his hand, gazed past the stunned Cardassian, fixing his eyes on Siadra. "Lieutenant, care to enlighten me on what's going on here? All I was told was to beam down and now I find my Officers engaged in a bar brawl," he remarked, flashing a smile at his longtime friend.

"Did we miss the memo about playing nice?" he looked past the Lieutenant at the rest of his Officers.

Siadra turned to look at her old friend, "Glad you could drop by." she turned back towards where their quarry was, and realized something. The Cardassian that she had planted the viridium strip on was gone!. "Well crud!"

Nala lead the small group out of the building right as Siadra snarled.

"You ok, Lt.? Omph!" Nala asked, then wobbled as a teenage looking girl hugged her.

"Thank you thank you thank you! My name's Tiki, and this is my brother, Plagg, and we are in your debt for forever," Both youths bowed to Nala.

"Um...you're welcome, and you don't need to be indebted to me, saving people's part of my job," Nala blushed, swirling her foot embarrassed.

"Yes we do! Our people are honor bound to serve you for at least twenty Earth years!" Tiki said, still bowed.

[Help!] Nala looked at the others, totally freaking out on the inside!

[Of all the scary things I've gone through, this is pretty high up there!] Nala thought.

Siadra looked around feeling a slight bit uncomfortable being out in the alleyway after that scuffle. "Uh so..." she rubbed the back of her neck, "I feel a little bit exposed out here, and I'd like a drink right now."

"Sounds like a good idea to me!" Nala said, moving closer to Lt. Kaida. Tiki and Plagg also scurried to stand behind Nala, keeping their heads lowered. Nala wanted to face palm, but she took a deep breath instead and put on her 'diplomatic' face. The siblings stiffened slightly.

"Ease up you two. Everythings mostly ok now," Nala soothed.

As her pummelling of the Cardassian wound down, Cassie sat back breathing heavily as she glared down at him. In her rage, she hadn’t hear Nala calling out to her or the voices of the other officers as they managed to stop the fighting. Taking a few deep breaths in, Cassie gradually stood up and turned around, “right…..who’s…..next…”

" No one is next Cassie, just us needing to move?"Siadra remarked. Siadra moved towards the door, to go back inside.

The little spitfire badass finally got back to them. Stopping behind Sidra, leaning at the waist and putting her hands on her knees to catch her breath. Faith had slipped out during the fighting to chase down three of them. She'd actually managed to dispatch two, the third however got away. "Damn that little Cardassian is fast."

Marc had been monitoring the away team from the Artemis. It seemed to him that things went from bad to worse, and they did it in hurry. No sooner did the XO beam down then he got hit by crossfire. Marc could see the vital signs fluctuating and ordered Abe transported directly to Sick Bay. Moments after the transport Dr Kenobi informed that Abernathy had to be placed into temporary stasis for his wounds. Marc opened a channel to the team. "Ms Frost I think it is time to get your team out of there. Return to the ship for debriefing."

Siadra was in shock, her friend, the XO Abe Abernathy got caught by a surprise attack. He saved her and paid a price. She was ready to go back to the ship. This day this mission went even worse.

Nala was heartbroken! Abe was a friend, and now he was hurt!

"Is there something we can do, Master?" Tiki and Plagg said as one.

"No, little ones, but thank you," Nala turned and hugged the duo.

"Um, Captain...I've got two kids that'll be coming back with us for awhile," Nala said over her Comm.

Marc sighed heavily. The Artemis was no place for children, and yet they were Starfleet. He was sure the Ensign had a good reason. "Very well Ensign. Transporter Room Energize."
